Access to Work

What is it?

If you have ADHD and are in work, or about to start a job, you might be entitled to extra support through a government scheme called Access to Work.

Access to Work is a UK government programme that provides practical and financial support to people with a disability or health condition (including ADHD) to help them stay in work and do their job effectively.

It’s there to make sure you have the right tools, adjustments and support in place.

Who Can Apply?

You can apply for Access to Work if:

  • You’re aged 16 or over

  • You live in England, Scotland or Wales

  • You have a job, are about to start one, or are taking part in work-related training or interviews

  • Your condition (like ADHD) affects the way you work

Check your eligibility here or call the Access to Work helpline

What Support Can You Get?

If you’re eligible, Access to Work might pay for things like:

  • Specialist ADHD coaching to help with organisation, focus, planning and emotional regulation

  • Mentoring or support workers to check in and help manage workload

  • Assistive technology such as apps, reminders, timers or speech-to-text software

  • Adjustments to your working environment, like noise-cancelling equipment or extra planning tools

  • Support for your employer to understand ADHD and make reasonable adjustments

Support is tailored to you, based on what you need, not what someone else thinks you should have.

How Do I Apply?

You apply online through the Access to Work website. You can apply by calling the Access to Work helpline. The process involves:

  • Check your eligibility first

  • Fill out an application form

  • Someone from Access to Work will contact you to talk about your application

I can support you through the process, from deciding what support might help, to accessing ADHD coaching through your Access to Work grant. Just get in touch if you'd like to chat through your options.
